Botanical Place Outing (12 June 2022)

Updated: Jul 16, 2023

I'mI am still can't over that my Croatian, foreign partner had been to KL Botanical Garden when I'm the local one haven't been here! I wanted to check the place myself but didn't want to go alone. Then I remember Bryan often comes here for a morning walk, thus he is familiar with the area and then there's Tina, whom I still owe a "date" day with her.

Long story short I dragged these two to have a whole day outing at the Botanical Garden XD

Taman Botani Perdana

Lit. Premier Botanical Park. Located nearby Parliament, the park surrounding area has been meticulously maintained by planting various species of ornamental trees. A jogging track, lounge chairs, Anniversari Stage, playground, and others have been prepared here.

Lake Gardens is a recreational area that attracts local and international visitors.

List of interesting locations within the park

Malaysia Cartoon & Comic House

One of the attractions at the park is the Malaysian Cartoon Comic House. According to Tina, on certain days famous local artists like those from Ujang and Gila-Gila would be there to give talks or interact with fans.

Malaysia Cartoon and Comic House opened its doors to visitors in April 2017 in a brand new building in Taman Botani Perdana (KL Lake Gardens).

This fun and colourful gallery showcases the history and development of cartoons and comics in Malaysia from the 1930s up to the present day. Hundreds of colourful cartoons and comic strips are on display, many of them the original artwork which had to be hand drawn and worded in the days before scanners made the job somewhat easier.

Taman Rusa

Lit. Deer Park. The next destination we headed after the comic house. In my mind, I was expecting to see deers roaming around (like in Nara Park in Japan) and hoping to be able to get close to them. Boy, I'm about to get disappointed.

Not only it took a long walk and deeper into the park to finally see the deer, there was barely any and it was located far from reach. The place in fact has more chicken and is even smelly too. The deers are barely active too.

Tugu Peringatan Negara

After we were done with the botanical park itself, we headed to another part of the park. I found out that both Tina and Bryan never really visited this place.

The Tugu Negara is a sculpture considered a national monument that commemorates those who died in Malaysia's struggle for freedom, principally against the Japanese occupation during World War II and the Malayan Emergency, which lasted from 1948 until 1960. It is located in the Federal capital, Kuala Lumpur. The Malaysian Houses of Parliament is situated near the monument.

It is the world's tallest bronze freestanding sculpture grouping. Until 2010, on 31 July on Warriors' Day, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the Prime Minister, and the heads of the Malaysian Armed Forces and the Royal Malaysia Police pay their respects to the fallen heroes by laying garlands at the monument. Warriors' Day is now commemorated on Merdeka Square after ultra-conservative religious bureaucrats declared the sculpture to be idolatrous.

This place has many good memories. I first visited this place when I was three years. I found out Domagoj didn't visit this section and one day if he comes again to Malaysia I plan to bring him here (which I eventually did).

Kuala Lumpur Bird Park

Tina and I haven't been to the famous bird park. Since Bryan did he happily guided us and he didn't mind going for the 2nd time as he enjoyed the park.

OMG This is hilarious! Almost everything at the bird park is written in English EXCEPT the price part; foreigners have to pay twice than locals HAHA I wonder if the reason only this part is written in Malay is to avoid fighting with foreigners?

All the birds roam free throughout the park with the exception of eagles.

Kuala Lumpur Bird Park (Malay: Taman Burung Kuala Lumpur) is a 20.9-acre (8.5 ha) public aviary in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is located adjacent to the Lake Gardens within a KL green lung in Bukit Aman, close to the National Mosque and Royal Malaysian Police Museum. The Bird Park houses more than 3,000 birds representing more than 200 species in an enclosed aviary. About 90% are local birds and 10% were imported from countries such as Australia, China, Holland, Indonesia, New Guinea, Tanzania, and Thailand.

One section of the bird park is the educational section; this section covers chicken farming.

I must say I never knew they can be incubated this way. I guess you learn new things every day. Incubating chicken eggs is a 21-day process and requires an egg incubator to help control temperature, humidity, and egg turning. Before we leave I need to take photos with the birds in the same way Domagoj did. Only when I have my photos taken I learned that Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is also wheelchair-friendly and is reputed to be the largest free-flight walk-in aviary in the world. Cool!

After we are done (which took us almost four hours) we decided to have lunch at the bird park's cafe. We were hoping to have the balcony with the park view unfortunately the restaurant is full so we have inside (which is fine since they have aircond).

Honestly, the food at the bird park restaurant is delicious and the price is actually decent, they're the same as other restaurants in KL. We don't mind coming here again just for the food.

Stonehenge

Next location we going to head to the Planetarium Negara (national Planetarium). On the way, we saw a mini Stonehenge section. As for Planetarium visit, it deserved its own post.

Stonehenge is possibly the most famous ancient observatory extant. A replica sits on the grounds of the Ancient Observatory Park, which is part of the large and pleasant Lake Gardens Park, located in the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. The Observatory Park contains other replicas of historical observatories and is close to the national planetarium and not too far from the national museum.

The replica is a scaled-down version, composed of something authentic in appearance, and solid in construction. The original Stonehenge in southern England is a pre-historic construct, used for astrological and religious purposes, as well as a burial ground.

Overall, it was a great outing with Tina and Bryan. I am also happy to be able to see and visited all the places Domagoj had been (apart of the Tugu Negara and Planetarium). I don't mind coming here again as the place is cozy (except for our humid weather).
