To the True Crime Communities

I've been wanting to write something about the True Crime community and I've decided to use this opportunity to write as part of the things I want to say on the New Year.

To outsiders it seems that we are odd, probably dangerous people with a disturbing interest, but the truth is that the majority of us, at least those who are transparent in the community are the complete opposite.

True crime community have the least number of trolls, because we do not tolerate or entertain trolls due to the nature of the subject. However, the occasional light humour, when appropriate, are welcome at times. The majority of us are very compassionate and polite. So I guess you wonder why would compassionate people be interested with such morbid, deplorable topics?

Many reasons really.

From morbid curiosity to awareness, we are curious and try to understand crimes that we would never commit; whatever crimes committed by monsters out there. Awareness; a stark reminder that despite the existence of many good souls out there, there are a fair number of rotten ones as well. Education; what we can learn from the crime: no, not about committing it! What we learn is how to avoid becoming a victim, how to avoid creating monsters, how best to help and save others in such situations.

The true crime community is also actively helping each other. We have no time for petty dramas as we understand the severity of our situation. The true crime community don't just cover infamous serial killers of the past. The true crime community also actively cover ongoing or unsolved criminal cases, or missing people cases. The community actively tries to help solve these cases, and most do so anonymously. We do not want fame. We just want to help and bring closure to grieving loved ones.

The true crime YouTubers are also the same. Rather than spending time with petty dramas or just being toxic, they help each other out. They would do collaborations, shoutouts, sharing - carry each other and some even raise others. There are no drama but in fact feel proud with success of others. It's healthy.

That's why despite the fact that I love fashion and makeup, I never stayed a part of the community. I did join for a short period before BUT as expected with subjects involving vanity, people tend to be petty and toxic. I just couldn't stand the toxicity and the pettiness. In the end I just let myself enjoy them on my own. In fact it's better that way.

But with the true crime community? I feel that we are a family who frequently look after each other.

Happy New Year to the True Crime Communities out there! May this year be kind to all of us. Cheers!
