Updated: Jan 15, 2021

ANIMEX 2014 International Festival, Animation & Computer Games Festival, created by Teesside University is holding its annual animation and computer games festival outside of U.K. for the first time ever, 15 years since Animex was first held at Teesside, Malaysia has been bestowed the honour to host its first ever Animex South East Asia 2014.

Held at KDU University College, Damansara Jaya, from 27 to 28 September 2014, there will be various activities for participants to take part in.

Featured activities include an industry showcase exhibition, networking opportunities, and talks and masterclasses where participants will get to gain advice and knowledge from the crème de la crème of the animation and gaming industry.

The Animex International Festival of Animation and Computer Games takes place every year in the north east of England and is one of the premier and largest animation, games and comic festivals in the UK. And now, 15 years since Animex was first held at Teesside, it is expanding overseas for the first time with Animex Southeast Asia taking place at KDU University College Damansara Jaya campus on Sept 27 and 28.

Simon Stobart, dean of Teesside University’s School of Computing, said, “We are delighted along with our partner KDU, to be able to offer an opportunity for participation in this wonderful event to the people of Malaysia.

By hosting the festival at KDU, students will be well exposed to what is happening in the global game development industry and market,” said KDU University College vice chancellor Prof Dr Khong Yoon Loong. “Students will also understand the level of quality and requirements expected from the global games market. Workshops and talks by professional developers from overseas will help improve and increase the knowledge of students,” Khong said.

Making him to check Inspidea booth

Taking photos with some delegates and Alex Trowers. Alex Trowers has worked for many companies such as Bullfrog and Black Rock. He also worked for Prof Stuart Sumida, whose work in the animation and special effects industries began with Beauty and the Beast and Lion King, and has since included Harry Potter, Chronicles of NarniaThe Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, and How to Train Your Dragon.

Meeting up my former teammates during 2014 Global Game Jam (also held here in KDU).

Overall it was an interesting experience, meeting Prof Sumida is everything. I volunteered to get to know the animation industry better since I was from gaming background but to see several people from the gaming industry as well just made me glee with interest.
