2019 has been an amazing year for Star Wars fans especially with The Mandalorian, Jedi Fallen Order and The Rise of Skywalker (putting the reviews aside hehe).
Malaysian fans have found various ways to gear up for the finale of Star Wars sequel trilogy. Starting with The Force Awaken in 2015, the Official Star Wars Malaysia Fan Club (SWMFC) had been hosting several screenings and one of them is the charity screenings.
Since I missed almost all screenings by SWMFC due to work schedule (also I watched Force Awaken with my previous company - my ex boss is a fan boy as well and rented the whole cinema for us to watch the screening a day early). The previous 2 films; The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi with Bryan. But since we broke up in early 2019, I was contemplating to ask him to accompany me (since he is also a Star Wars fan and we watched the first 2 films together). In the end I asked my brother (who is a super fan boy) to accompany me instead.
Passing by Adidas and saw their collaboration work ahahaha. Meet up several friends and mingling around with the club members. Gotta admit I felt underdressed and I wasn't sure why I was wearing my Mensa t-shirt...oh I wore my cat headphone for the lights to compensate lacking of lightsabers (one day my brother and I really should get one).
To be honest I'm still amused SWMFC choose Sunway Pyramid's TGV (Tanjung Golden Cinema). It's a good location and spacious but I felt Midvalley's GSC (Golden Screen Cinema) would had been better. Regardless, both of them convenient for me.
Here's all the main info you need for SWMFC's Premier Screening:
6pm - Setup expected to start - come early to collect your charity gift packs, and leave you ample time to grab dinner
7pm - General registration - we have 300 of you to process.
7.45pm - Cosplay walkabout from TGV to Pyramid Atrium, as well as Family Photo
8.15pm - Lightsaber performance by FAST
8.30pm - Hall Opens
8.45pm - Pre-Screening activities in the Hall / Film begins
11.30pm - Family Photo (after the film)
Awesome lightsaber performance by FAST.
What was even better was watching it at a private charity screening event organized by Official Star Wars Malaysia Fan Club (SWMFC) where we had over 200 people who eat, breathe and sleep Star Wars. We literally had goose bumps during key scenes in TROS when everyone erupted in cheer and excitement! And when the movie was over, we didn't need any lights to get out because we lit the whole place up with our lightsabers! Thanks to John Gullidge & Adi for the photos (at official FB page). All photos here taken by me.
As the credits roll everyone begin to light up their lightsabers. We were reminded over and over to be please be mindful about discussing spoilers, out of respect to fellow members and other cinema patrons who may be watching TROS for the first time,
The 3rd charity screening event was very successful with 280pax. We literally lit up the hall with more than 90 lightsabers in one hall (n I compensate with my cat headphone lights).
After the screening most of us hanging around as we are preparing to take Family Photo.
One of the cutest cosplayer definitely this little Ewok. Just look at him! Looking sleepy haha
A mechanical The Child (Grogu) dol. Made by one of the club members Saiful Knine.
My friend Winson lend my brother his awesome lightsaber. Loving it!
Finally the final the Family Photo. We took this shot at the arcade next to the cinema.
Overall the experience had been great and I would love to participate any screenings with SWMFC. Despite many of them bring their children along, they all well behave and have strong spirit of Star Wars in them *sniff sniff* May the Force be with everyone!
